Branko Grims is a Slovenian politician and a member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Slovenia, representing the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) as part of the European People’s Party (EPP).
He assumed office on 16 July 2024, following a long political career in Slovenia.Grims was a co-founder of the Slovenian Democratic Party and has played a significant role in Slovenian politics for decades.
He was first elected to the National Assembly in 1990, serving until 1992, and later held a parliamentary seat from 2004 to 2024. Additionally, he was a member of the National Council from 1997 to 2002.
Known for his firm stance on immigration, Grims made headlines in 2024 with his inaugural speech at the European Parliament, where he advocated for "remigration," calling for the return of individuals who, in his view, exploit EU asylum laws.
